What recruiters see when you're referred
A general look at how referrals usually reach a recruiter, and what you can do to help.
1 min read
Processes differ by company, but the usual pattern is that your referrer submits your details through the employer's own referral system, and a recruiter sees that the application came with an employee's endorsement.
What tends to matter
- Your CV is still judged against the job requirements.
- A clear note from the referrer saves the recruiter time.
- A referral does not guarantee an interview or an offer.
How to help your referrer
- Send the exact job link or reference number.
- Keep your CV as a tidy PDF.
- Tell them if you have already applied, so they can check the company's rules.
Ask your referrer how their company handles referrals, since some require the referral before an application is made.
