Getting a referral for sales and customer roles
How to describe your results and relationships honestly when you ask for a referral to a sales or customer-facing role.
Quick answer: Use your own real results, say how you built relationships and keep the message short and personal.

Sales and customer roles are about people, so a referrer will notice how you write. A warm, clear and honest message is already a good sign.
Use your own real results
- If you have figures, such as targets met or accounts managed, use only ones you can explain and that are yours to share.
- If you do not have figures, describe the situation, what you did and what changed.
- Never exaggerate. A referrer may be asked about you.
Show how you work with people
Mention one example of building trust with a customer or colleague, such as solving a difficult problem or keeping a relationship going after a setback.
Keep it personal and short
